What launched

The launch post went up at 20:57 UTC on 13 September: "Here are the best sites I've found made with ChatGPT Sites", a link, and the nomination rule. The site itself is a single page with a pixel-art wordmark on black, a grid of preview cards, and a "Load more" that stops at eighty. Each card has a title, a sentence, a Visit link and an upvote arrow. At launch nearly every count was zero or one, so the ordering is editorial for now, not popularity.

It grew out of the last-call thread from 11 September, which drew about fifty replies. Roughly half of the forty sites we collected from that thread are now in the gallery, alongside a similar number we had not seen. The gallery is built with Next.js and served through Cloudflare, and describes its entries as made with ChatGPT rather than as an OpenAI product.

What is in the eighty

• Games. Astra Arcade (six games in one cabinet), Penalty Shootout King, Voxel Slot Car Racer, Draw to Race, Snowblox, Jelly Break, Flyway Surfer, and No Moat, a strategy game about the AI industry where you pick a founder.
• 3D scenes and simulations. Pelagic Ocean, ForestRide, Mini Moto Park, The Listening Café, a reconstruction of Roberto Nickson's studio in bricks, and Fluid Playground.
• Music and visual art. Web Harmonium with Sargam notation, Murmuration (place stars, hear music), Daybreak Piano Film with a synchronised 3D pianist, The Light Between, Digital Peony, Fishvj Ritual Live.
• Maps and atlases. Hyderabad Bus Atlas, India Infra Map, Gurgaon 3D Atlas, Tahoe Camp with campground availability, Terrene Atlas, a San Francisco love letter on a 3D city map.
• Learning. POKE-8 teaches 6502 assembly in a fantasy computer, Transformer Architecture puts Transformer and DeepSeek side by side in 3D, Anatomy Atlas, Carotid Web Explorer, an OpenAI model history timeline.
• Tools. Forma Design Studio (a Figma-style editor), Halo Desktop (a browser desktop with sixteen apps), a seamless texture maker, a garage floor tile planner, a WebMCP drawing canvas.
• The rest. Dailies, a daily-puzzle site by Jon Abrams; one personal portfolio; Kath Korevec's own Heavy Rotation Weekly; and OpenAI's ChatGPT Work Guide, the one entry on an openai subdomain.

Two makers account for a noticeable share: one has six entries, another five. The rest are one each. Most entries read as weekend projects that turned out well, which is the point of a showcase.

Custom domains in the gallery

Seventy-eight of the eighty addresses follow the name.user.chatgpt.site pattern. Two are on domains their makers own: Night Parade, a field guide to Japanese yokai, at yokaicabinet.com, and Vibe Code Kids at vibecodekids.com. The first site nominated under the tag after launch, a taco-themed platformer, is on its own domain as well. Custom domains on Sites are documented and work, so the low share says more about who nominates than about the feature.

How to get listed

1. Make the Site public. The gallery links directly to it. A Site shared by invitation cannot be opened by a passing visitor without a ChatGPT account, so it cannot be featured.
2. Post it on X with #awesomesites. That is the whole nomination process as stated in the launch post. Say what the site does in a sentence; the gallery's own descriptions are one line each, and yours will probably be adapted.
3. Expect a screenshot. Every card carries a preview image generated from the site, so the first screen should show what it is.
4. Upvotes come later. Counts were near zero at launch. If ordering starts following votes, the tag post is where they will be recruited.

What the gallery cannot show

Read the eighty as a list of jobs and one category is empty. Nothing in the gallery is a report for a client, a dashboard someone pays for, a proposal, an audit, or a design review. That is not because nobody makes those with ChatGPT. It is because those pages are private, their reader is outside the maker's company, and as of the 11 September update the private option on Sites is an invitation the reader can only accept by signing in with a ChatGPT account. A public gallery is only ever going to show the public half.

If the page you have is the other half, the shape you need is different from everything on awesomesites.ai: a private link the client opens with no account, a passcode or a company email gate when the content warrants one, an expiry, your own domain, and a read on who opened it. What to watch

Whether the count moves past eighty and how fast, whether upvotes start driving order, whether the custom-domain share climbs with the nominations, and whether OpenAI folds the gallery into the Sites product pages. We will update this post when any of those change; the date at the top is the tell.
